Waking up just in time for breakfast (brunch), I open the window shade and there she is, Mother Africa/Mother Ghana shining her verdant plains up to our window. As the clouds part, they too are doing their part to welcome Ghana’s children home.

Everywhere you turn folks greet you with Akwaaba- Welcome. From the time you step off the plane you do indeed feel welcomed.

A drumming circle and traditional dancers dance, play and celebrate your arrival. People walking by turn and with huge smiles seek to help you find your way. In the smallest of small world stories I run into folks from back in the day who happen to be in Ghana for the Year of Return’s Spiritual Pilgrimage. What are the chances of that? At the invitation of their organizer I join their Welcoming Ceremony at the Accra Tourism Center. It is a deeply moving experience as libations are poured out to the ancestors, prayers are offered in several faith traditions (Traditional, Muslim, Christian, Hebrew Israelite, Rastafarian) and we are treated to a joyous party. The local beverages, many made from roots and plants, are fabulous. Be sure to have the Tigernut punch – delish!!!
It is good to be home. Jet lag is starting to catch up with me. Time to snooze. See you tomorrow.
