They say you will know it when you see it…the one! While I always wondered if that was true about love, I have been converted where markets are concerned. Now, listen wonderful fans of ThatTravelingBlackGirl, I have been to markets all over the world but this one was truly special. Perhaps it was the feminine entrepreneurial space. Maybe it was the no pressure curatorial vibes. It could even have been the pride these women displayed when sharing their wares. All I know is that I found my Market HEAVEN and it was all that.
The Accra Goods Market is a pop-up market that showcases the up and coming purveyors of soaps, clothing, handbags, hair products, jewelry galore and so much more. Held 3-4 times per year in conjunction with a National Holiday, the Accra Goods Market is market, food festival and meet-up spot. While at the typical tourist markets where the sellers are clearly retailers of goods they did not create, at this market the vendor is the artist, designer and passionista behind every product. You can see the love put in each item.

The Necklace woman
Shika’s crocheted handbags are the real deal: unique, well-crafted and gorgeous. @shikabags_gh painstakingly creates each bag. Watch out New York. I am going to be the only one styling these bags, but not for long. @wolfcouturegh took all of my money with her gorgeous necklaces, anklets, bracelet and earrings. Girl…every piece was perfect – thanks. Yes, I know I was shopping for friends, but did you have to take all my coins :-).
