Fashion Is The Thing

A highlight of my trip to Ghana was being able to take in three days of MBFW, formerly Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Accra. For a mere 250 cedes ($50) I had a VIP front row seat and party access.

Designers from throughout the Continent and Diaspora brought their A game. Their visions included the functional and fanciful. Each night a concert broke out on the catwalk as leading rappers/singers serenaded the models.

I was warmly welcomed by the fashion community. Pretense and competitIon were replaced with love and support as each designer cheered for their peer. As I enjoyed a glass of champagne from the front row, I thought – “Anna Wintour, look out. I can get used to this.”
